With a little more than two months to go until the United States presidential election, YouTube is giving its community the opportunity to film some high-quality political videos. At the video site’s production spaces in New York and Los Angeles, politics-themed sets have been erected, so that creators can shoot themselves in the Oval Office, behind a news desk, or on a debate stage.
Between the two facilities, five themed stages are available. In New York, beyond the aforementioned debate stage and Oval Office, there is also a White House press room. In Los Angeles, a multi-purpose set includes a news desk, briefing room, and polling station. Southern Californian creators can also advantage of their own Oval Office, but unlike the one in New York, the Los Angeles version is equipped for 360-degree videos. That will make it a popular choice with videomakers who wish to produce the sort of VR content that will be featured on Google’s upcoming Daydream platform
.“[P]eople have come to YouTube to watch over 110 million hours of candidate and issues-related content leading up this year’s US Presidential Election,” reads a YouTube blog post introducing the new sets. “The YouTube community has become a key part of these political conversations and we want to help creators take their presidential banter and commentary to the next level and encourage their audience to vote.”
YouTube’s political sets are now open, so keep an eye out for election-themed videos from your favorite creators. The first debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump is less than a month away, so perhaps the relevant stage for that event to be in particularly high demand.
