REVRY Seeks Niche As A Subscription Video Service Stocked With LGBT Content

Those in search of LGBT-oriented web series, narrative films, and documentaries should direct their search to a new subscription-based video service. It’s called REVRY, and it is now available on several major over-the-top and mobile devices, where it offers a curated selection of polished content from the LGBT community.

REVRY, which costs $4.99 per month or $54.99 per year, has sourced much of its launch content from the indie web series community, where shows for, by, and about LGBT characters are fairly common. From among that crop, REVRY has selected several dozen series (including some we’ve discussed here), which it has licensed and distributed to its subscribers. The service’s users can also access a number of relevant films, music videos, and podcasts.

As REVRY co-founder Damian Pelliccione told The Daily Dot, the decision to launch the app stemmed from the dearth of LGBT-focused streaming services and TV networks. In REVRY’s origin story, Pelliccione refers to the fact that he and his partner could not find any LGBT video hubs on their Apple TV. “We noticed there was no LGBT streaming app for Chromecast either,” he told the Dot. “That’s when we had the billion-dollar idea to create one.”

REVRY’s initial lineup revolves around licensed content, but these days, most significant subscription video services are building original programming libraries, and Pelliccione and his team plan to follow suit. The service’s first two originals are a pair of documentaries: One, House of Trans, dives into LA’s drag scene; the second, After Orange, follows women after they get out of prison.

Both of those shows are due out in the fall. In the meantime, there is already close to 200 hours of content available on the service. Beyond Apple TV and Chromecast, it is also available on Roku as well as iOS.
