Fullscreen’s First Docu-Series Follows U.S. Women’s Soccer On Road To Rio Olympics

Fullscreen has announced the latest original series slated to arrive on its streaming service — a $4.99-per-month platform that is also home to premium shows from digital influencers like the Fine Brothers and Jack and Dean. In the lead-up to next month’s Olympics, Fullscreen will premiere Keeping Score, its first-ever original docu-series following female soccer stars Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe, and Crystal Dunn as they embark on the road to Rio. The series is still in production, and will debut on Fullscreen August 3.

Fullscreen says that Keeping Score pushes deeper than traditional sports docu-series in that Solo, Rapinoe, and Dunn will turn the camera on themselves, with self-shot footage capturing the ladies in their homes. The series will also delve into their upbringings, relationships, and life stories. Solo and Rapinoe — as well as three other members of the women’s national team — notably filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, stating that the team was being paid roughly a quarter of what their male counterparts were earning, despite the fact that the women’s team was bringing in almost $20 million more in revenue.

“Through their individual stories, we’re following these woman as they make history — not only as a team on the soccer pitch, but in their fight for equal pay,” Fullscreen’s head of production, Ashley Kaplan, said in a statement. “Viewers will witness their struggles and motivations first-hand at a time where the future of women’s soccer could change forever.”

Fullscreen launched its SVOD platform in April with an original slate featuring new shows from Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, Shane Dawson, and Alexis G. Zall, as well as licensed standards including Saved By The Bell and Dawson’s Creek. Additionally, the service aims to evoke an MTV-like feel, replete with GIF-cutting tools that also turn it into a social network of sorts.
