A lifestyle website known for producing content aimed at female consumers has cut ties with a significant number of employees. Mode Media, which was founded in 2004 as Glam Media and valued as a billion-dollar company in 2013, has laid off 30 workers, according to the Wall Street Journal.
On its website, Mode publishes articles that relate to female-skewing topics like fashion, style, food, and pop culture. It is also active on YouTube, where it posts approximately five videos each week. Its most popular series, 100 Years Of Fashion shows viewers how men and women of the past century wore certain garments. Here’s the latest episode, which discusses handbags:
It’s unclear how the layoffs will affect Mode’s production capabilities or its online video activities. The company did not respond to the Wall Street Journal’s request for comment.
The layoffs are the latest in a line of personnel changes at Mode. In April 2016, the company’s co-founder Samir Arora departed his post as CEO. The same month, noted investor Marc Andreessen left his position on the Mode board.
