Season Two Of Golden Globe Nominee ‘Casual’ Arrives On Hulu

Hulu recently announced that one of its longest-running original series, Deadbeat, would not be back for a fourth season, but one day later, the video platform did roll out new episodes of what is perhaps its most-acclaimed comedy. Casual, created by Zander Lehmann, has begun its second season on Hulu.

Casual, which features Oscar-nominee Jason Reitman as one of its executive producers, premiered last October to generally positive reviews. It stars Michaela Watkins and Tommy Dewey as Alex and Laura, who move in together after Laura’s marriage falls apart. Tara Lynne Barr co-stars as Laura’s daughter, who has problems of her own. Hulu waited just two weeks after Casual’s premiere before renewing it for a second season.

Two months later, more good news arrived, as the show earned a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical category. The Globe nod was the first major award nomination for a Hulu original series, and it therefore represented a big step forward in the development of the platform’s library.

The new episodes of Casual will continue to follow the show’s three main characters as the issues plaguing their respective lives deepen. Early critical consensus, as judged by Metacritic, is positive, with some reviewers praising Casual as a TV comedy standout.

If the warm response generated by Casual’s new season intrigues you, you can check the show out on Hulu. The first two episodes are now available, though viewing them will require a subscription to one of Hulu’s monthly plans.
