Rooster Teeth Plans Two Series For Paying “Sponsors,” Including Its First Drama

Rooster Teeth is branching out, and as it does, its paying subscribers will serve as its target audience. The Austin-based entertainment company, which recently released its first feature film, has announced two new web series: A sci-fi comedy called Crunch Time and a thriller called Day 5. Both will be available exclusively to Rooster Teeth’s paying subscribers, referred to as its “sponsors.”

The majority of Rooster Teeth’s productions have starred its own cast of loveable personalities, and in that regard, both of the upcoming shows will be significant departures for the studio. Crunch Time, which will follow goofy grad students as they fool around with their equipment and accidentally open up a black hole, features a strong cast that includes Good Neighbor’s Nick Rutherford and Freaks And GeeksSamm Levine. In contrast, Day 5 will be a drama series — Rooster Teeth’s first — that will star Jesse C. Boyd as a meth addict who must live in a world where sleep has become fatal.

To access both of these series, potential viewers will need to purchase sponsorships, which cost $4.99 per month. Rooster Teeth has handed exclusive content to its sponsors before; for example, paying customers received early access to the third season of

RWBY, the animated series created by the late Monty Oum. Other perks that come with sponsorship include discounts on Rooster Teeth merchandise and an ad-free viewing experience.

“Rooster Teeth Sponsors are the fans that have enabled our company to grow into the premiere entertainment destination that we are today,” said Matt Hullum, CEO of Rooster Teeth, in a press release. “Without our loyal Sponsors, we couldn’t have gotten to the point of creating a feature film like Lazer Team, or shows like RWBY and Immersion. As we continue to grow, we want to push our boundaries even further with big, bold new series like Crunch Time and Day 5, and thank our Sponsors by making shows like these just for them.”

Specific release dates for Crunch Time and Day 5 have not been announced, but both series are expected to arrive sometime in 2016. In the meantime, there is plenty of free content available across Rooster Teeth’s digital network.
