Maker Studios announced today that 34 of its bold-faced creators, including Sophia Grace, Magic of Rahat and RealityChangers, will comprise the inaugural class of a new incubation initiative.
Entitled Spark, the global endeavor will call for creators to submit original concepts that could be developed into a series or cross-platform franchise — from which Maker will select and finance the strongest concepts. In addition to the inaugural class of 34, Maker says it has “greenlit over 100 additional concepts” thus far.
The very first video financed by Spark was a comedic election primer entitled Intro To… by The Holderness Family (below), which debuted earlier this month. The other shows — which will cover fictional first dates between historical figures, the secret lives of wigs, post-apocalyptic puppets and one-minute musicals — are all live as of today. They are also being screened at an event next week in Los Angeles.
“The program allows for digital video execution at scale without sacrificing each creator’s individual voice,” said Maker’s Gabriel Lewis, executive vice president of development and studios, in a statement.
Check out the full list of Spark’s first class below, which Maker says was selected for its drive, ability, audience engagement, and potential for expanding beyond native platforms:
