Facebook Showcases 360-Degree Video Capability With Campy ‘Zoolander 2’ Clip

Facebook and Derek Zoolander are getting their pose on in a campy new clip that shows off the social network’s stunning 360-degree video capabilities.

The 2-minute teaser features the infamous supermodel, bedecked in a hot pink headband and matching sweatshirt, as he walks around a photoshoot set, striking aggressive poses with a litany of lanky models. At the tail end of the clip, Zoolander stands in front of a series of mirrors, throwing all perspective into total disarray.

On desktops, users can drag around the scene with their cursors to get a full glimpse of the goings-on. On mobile, the experience is even more immersive: the screen shifts as you move your phone through air.

This isn’t the first time that Facebook has partnered with a major film to showcase 360-degree videos, which it created alongside its Oculus VR division. In September, Facebook launched the feature on newsfeeds with a clip from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Since then, according to a press release, “thousands of unique and exciting 360 videos have been shared on Facebook.”

The clip for Zoolander 2, which opens this Friday, was created using stereoscopic 3D cameras and 3D sound-field microphones by Jaunt, a maker of virtual reality software and hardware.
