Hillary Clinton To Field Questions From GloZell Green And Other YouTube Stars

Hillary Clinton wants to up her appeal among young voters, and as part of her strategy, she has turned to the world of YouTube. The Democratic presidential candidate will field questions from YouTube stars GloZell Green, Chriselle Lim, and Maya Washington during a January 13th TV special that will air at 10 PM EST on the Lifetime channel

The special will air as an episode of The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet and will feature a conversation between Clinton and de Cadenet. Green, Lim, and Washington will follow up the interview by asking the former Secretary of State their own questions. As Mashable notes, topics will include “paid family leave, the mom versus work battle and how to tackle fear.”

This will be GloZell’s second sit-down with a major political figure. Last January, the green-clad vlogger was one of three social media celebrities who ventured to the White House to interview President Barack Obama. Her fans have known about her collaboration with Clinton for weeks; in December, she tweeted a pair of photos that showed her hanging out with the Democratic frontrunner.

For Lim and Washington–both of whom are known for the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle videos they create on their respective YouTube channels–sharing screen time with a DC bigshot will be a novel experience. Lim has more than 500,000 subscribers, while Washington, also known as Shameless Maya, has nearly 650,000 of them. GloZell, for her own part, has more than four million subscribers.

Since beginning her presidential run last year, Clinton has familiarized herself with online video culture. Her official Twitter account follows social media star Tyler Oakley, and she has topped all other candidates in terms of YouTube views. Her digital prowess won’t necessarily win her the election, but it will raise her profile among a certain group of voters, and it will allow her to keep pace with her political opponents as well.
