Lionsgate, Google Play Celebrate End Of ‘Mad Men’ With Digital Experience

Google and Lionsgate are pumping up the Mad Men nostalgia just in time for the show’s completion. The two companies have launched The Mad Men Experience, a digital destination for all things AMC’s Mad Men, in anticipation of the series’ finale on May 17, 2015.

Self-described in a release as an “art exhibit-style” website, The Mad Men Experience takes fans an interactive journey through the making of Mad Men and the 1960s ad agency culture that inspired the series. Mad Men fans can view never-before-released content, like show artwork and cast interviews, as well as watch the first episode of the series entirely for free on Google Play.

Google notes how the popularity of Mad Men hasn’t been restricted to the television screen. Over the last seven years of the show’s existence, fans searched for the character name “Don Draper” more than any other character, except for season one, when “Peggy Olsen” received more queries. Mad Men aficionados have also used Google Search to figure out what drinks their favorite characters were sipping, as well as how to mimic the hairstyles of Draper, Betty Francis, and Joan Harris.

Mad Men has captivated audiences and placed them squarely in the cocktail culture of mid-century Madison Avenue,” said Jessica Igoe

, Global Media and Content Partnership Marketing for Google Play. “As die-hard fans ourselves, we’re excited to collaborate with Lionsgate to share this unique Mad Men experience that gives everyone a chance to explore and interact with each season on Google Play long after the series concludes.”

“Our partnership with Google Play reflects our continuing commitment to create and deliver cutting edge content that extends our brands for fans and newcomers alike to discover for years to come,” added Lionsgate EVP of Marketing Anne Parducci. “The Mad Men Experience transports a ground-breaking show to a new level by infusing its representation of 1960’s Madison Avenue with state-of-the-art technology.”

This isn’t the first time Google Play has partnered with a major film or television studio to bring a digital-based experience directly to fans. Previously, Google worked with Paramount Pictures for a variety of online initiatives based on Christopher Nolan’s film Interstellar. That partnership resulted in a Google Hangout with the film’s cast and crew, as well as a short, time capsule-style documentary dubbed Emic.

You can visit The Mad Men Experience at g.co/MadMen, or visit Google Play to watch episode one, season one while it’s still free.
