2015 Webby Award Winners Revealed, Include Ellen DeGeneres, Michelle Phan

The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences has selected the winners of the 2015 Webby Awards from a host of nominees. The 19th annual Awards show will recognize individuals and brands, including Ellen DeGeneres and Michelle Phan, for their outstanding work in the digital, web, and online video realms.

This year’s Webby Award winners include a range of well-known names in the online world. Funny or Die took home the award for Best Humor Website, and Jimmy Kimmel was recognized for his “Mean Tweets” video segment. Grumpy Cat won the Best Animal Social category, while GoPro took home the award for Culture & Lifestyle in Social and Best Consumer Electronics Website. Additionally, Always#LikeAGirl campaign pulled in a whopping 11 total Webby Awards across various categories such as

In addition to the main awards, more than 500,000 internet users from over 200 countries voted to select the Webby People’s Voice Awards winners. DeGeneres pulled in three separate People’s Voice Awards for her various digital initiatives. Phan took a Voice Award for her beauty and lifestyle YouTube channel, while the Fine Bros.’s popular Kids React earned a People’s Voice for best comedy series. Crackle’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee series starring Jerry Seinfeld earned both a People’s Voice and Webby Award, as did Jimmy Fallon

’s The Tonight Show YouTube channel.

The 2015 Webbys will also bestow several Special Achievement Awards on deserving individuals and brands. Ellie Kemper and Tituss Burgess will receive the Best Actress and Best Actor Awards, respectively, for their work in Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Viner Jerome Jarre will be recognized for his social media prowess with Vine and Snapchat, and the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge creator Patt Quinn will receive an award for sparking the viral awareness movement.

Webby Award winners will be celebrated at a ceremony hosted by comedian and actor Hannibal Buress on May 18, 2015 at the Cipriani Wall Street. In preparation for the Webby Awards, Buress teamed up with Funny or Die to produce a spoof video about the “Deep Webbys” awards, which the comedian is pressured into hosting by what appear to be members of the hacker web group Anonymous.
