Paul Reubens Shares First Selfie From ‘Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday’ Set

Paul Reubens is bringing his famous 1980’s Pee-wee Herman character into the digital age. Reubens released an Instagram selfie on April 17, 2015, taken from the set of Netflix’s upcoming Judd Apatow-produced film Pee-wee’s Big Holiday.

Reubens used the official Pee-wee Herman Instagram account to post the selfie of him as the childlike, fictional character with a characteristic wardrobe and laugh that was beloved by many children of the ’80s. Alongside him was actor Joe Manganiello (of Magic Mike XXL fame), who joined the Pee-wee’s Big Holiday cast on April 8. The selfie reveals little of what’s actually going on in the film’s set, but clearly showcases Pee-wee’s rather goofy smile.

Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, all about the titular character taking his first vacation, was written by Reubens and Paul Rust, an actor from Inglorious Basterds and writer for a few Arrested Development episodes (another production Netflix has promised to bring back). Reubens will also co-produce the new Pee-wee film alongside Apatow.

Back in December 2014, rumors started circulating Netflix would distribute Apatow’s film revival of the Pee-wee empire. A few months later in February, the streaming service confirmed it would be the exclusive release platform for the John Lee-directed Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, which started production in March.

No release date for the film has been announced as of yet.
