Between 2001 and 2006, Endemol USA produced the reality series Fear Factor for NBC. A brief 2011-12 revival notwithstanding, viewers haven’t thought much about the stunt-based reality show in the past decade, but Endemol’s digital division is looking to change that. As first noted by The Hollywood Reporter, it has released the first episode of a web series called Fear Factor Remix that mashes up clips from the TV show.
The creative force behind Fear Factor Remix is DJ Steve Porter, who is known for putting a musical spin on viral clips. His most popular video, which remixes the Slap Chop infomercial, has been viewed more than 15 million times since its release in 2009.
For Endemol’s web series, Porter cuts together Fear Factor clips based around a specific theme. The first episode, for example, is titled “The Taste In Your Mouth,” and it focuses on the gross things Fear Factor contestants have been forced to eat over the years.
“This is the next generation of Fear Factor, produced specifically for the digitally-savvy millennial audience,” Endemol Beyond president Will Keenan told THR. Keenan added that the clips will be “bite-sized, Internet-friendly content that our YouTube, Facebook and OTT viewers are sure to enjoy.”
New episodes of Fear Factor Remix will arrive each Friday on the show’s YouTube channel.
