Yahoo’s ‘Community’ Trailer Is As Genre-Savvy As You’d Expect

On May 17th, the sixth season of Community will debut exclusively on Yahoo Screen. In the lead-up to that event, Yahoo has provided the show’s fans with a number of announcements and promotional efforts. Now, for the first time, Yahoo has offered a video preview of the new episodes with an official trailer for season six.

Community built its audience with its self-aware parodies of specific film and TV genres. The new trailer provides the same sort of entertainment by making fun of bombastic blockbuster trailers that use the Inception foghorn noise far too much.

From the looks of it, the genre parodies will extend to the show itself, too. There appears to be some sort of Karate Kid

episode in there, and there’s another where Jeff (Joel McHale) turns into some kind of futuristic mayor. We also get our first looks at new cast members Paget Brewster and Keith David; the trailer literally dubs Brewster’s character the “new Shirley,” while David portrays an old student with a “brain the size of Jupiter”

Ultimately, season six looks like the Community of old, which is good news for the fans who campaigned heavily to get the show back on air. Those fans will surely flock to Yahoo Screen en masse once the new episodes become available.
