Netflix Orders Will Arnett Comedy ‘Flaked’

Netflix appears to like working with Will Arnett. The streaming service has ordered the actor’s comedy series Flaked for exclusive distribution.

Eight episodes of Flaked will follow the story of Chip (played by Arnett), a man who falls for his best friend’s object of interest and must struggle to keep up his self-appointed “guru” image as his a carefully constructed web of lies starts to unwind around him. Netflix will produce the show co-created and co-written by executive producers Arnett and Mark Chappell (of The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret). Ben Silverman, Peter Principato, and Mitch Hurwitz will also executive produce. Silverman’s Electus studio will provide production services along with Principato-Young.

“We’re very excited to partner with Netflix– the home of original, original content — and the network I knew would be the ideal home for this passion project,” said Arnett in the release.

Arnett is already a

familiar face (and voice) to Netflix audiences. The actor reprised his role as Gob Bluth when the streaming video-on-demand service picked up Arrested Development for a fourth season. Arnett also stars in Netflix’s animated original series Bojack Horseman, which the SVOD service renewed for a second season only four days after its premiere. Additionally, Arnett has worked with Electus in the past on the web series Always Open and Dirty Shorts. If Arnett’s upcoming Flaked is of the same comedic caliber as these previous projects, the show could end up doing very well with audiences on the streaming platform.

“We are thrilled to be the home of Will Arnett’s next series, and look forward to Chip joining his repertoire alongside such diverse and inspirational characters such as Gob, Bojack, and Batman,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix.

Netflix said Arnett’s Flaked will be released sometime in 2016.
