Indie Spotlight: ‘Slash/Up’ Pits Sarah Connor Against Jason Voorhees

The hypothetical matchup between pop culture warriors has powered TV shows, YouTube channels, and an endless number of nerdy arguments. Now, a new web series is taking its own crack at hypothetical combat scenarios between pop culture icons. It’s called Slash/Up, and it has a particular focus on horror movie characters.

Slash/Up is the brainchild of Dead Pixel, a production company that previously adapted a crossover comic called Marvel Zombies Vs. The Army Of Darkness. The fan film was removed after a claim from Marvel, but that hasn’t stopped Dead Pixel. Instead, they’ve returned with the first episode of Slash/Up which pits Terminator heroine Sarah Connor against Friday the 13th villain Jason Voorhees.

Dead Pixel doesn’t seem interested in turning Slash/Up into a blatant copy of Super Power Beat Down. Instead, they constructed an entire scene around their climactic battle, while additional segments before the scene introduce the combatants and provide a history lesson on each film. The main event, of course, is the actual battle, which is well-executed and satisfying.

Dead Pixel would like to make more Slash/Up episodes, so it has turned to Kickstarter, where it is asking for $12,500 for future episodes. Up next is Neo vs. Freddy Krueger, so if you’d like to witness that smackdown, consider a contribution.

OTHER UNDER-THE-RADAR SERIES TO CHECK OUT

  • Higher Education. This web series set at a university centers around a group of student tour guides.
  • My Awkward 20-Something Life. An appearance from Josh Fu of The Fu bolsters this comedy.
