Endemol Beyond’s UK division is leveling up its content with a new gaming channel. Legends of Gaming, featuring popular YouTube gamer Ali-A, will pit international eSports YouTubers against each other to see who will become the ultimate gamer.
Launching later in September, the channel will offer a different angle on eSports competitions by drawing from a wide range of game types and styles, so all the gamers involved will have an equal shot at winning. To make things more exciting, each YouTube “Legend” will assume the role of a superhero alter-ego, complete with comic book-style graphics and homemade costumes involving Spandex.
Ali-A is set to host Legends of Gaming, having already established himself as a popular YouTube gamer with over 5.5 million subscribers across both of his channels. In addition to commentary, Ali will also provide news, reviews, countdowns, and highlight reels to round out the channel’s content and give context to the competition proceedings.
“Legends of Gaming is a channel that was just crying out to be made,” said Randel Bryan, UK Endemol Beyond’s UK Director of Digital Content, in a release. “For years we’ve seen the YouTube gaming elite entertaining their audiences from their own bedrooms, now it’s time to bring them all together, level the playing field and find out who really is the ultimate Legend of Gaming.”
Endemol’s new channel is also meant to generate hype for its upcoming gaming event. The MCN has partnered with Upper Street Events to host Legends of Gaming LIVE in September 2015 in London at the Alexandra Palace. The four-day video game expo will boast around 40,000 attendees and feature Legends of Gaming stars in live competitions and events, as well as allowing attendees to try out some of the newest games before they hit the market.
“This marks a dramatic shift in video gaming events,” noted Katie Ventresca of Upper Street Events in the release. “Legends of Gaming LIVE will be a truly spectacular expo, built around YouTube and streamed live on Twitch – the go to places to source news & entertainment for gamers. From AAA to indie, from mobile to home console – be it for young or for old, Legends of Gaming LIVE will have something for everyone.”
