Capcom Announces ‘Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist’ Sequel At Comic-Con

Capcom‘s best brawlers are coming back to the web. The video game developer known for Street Fighter has announced Street Fighter: World Warrior, a sequel to the Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist web series.

Assassin’s Fist, which debuted in May on Machinima after spending nearly two years in development, served as a far cry from the Street Fighter adaptations of the 90s. Assassin’s Fist featured a dark, serious style, and creator Joey Ansah chose to go with a prequel plot line instead of setting his series at the titular tournament. The result was a success. The eleven episodes of Assassin’s Fist have all been viewed more than 750,000 times, with the most popular installment accruing nearly three million views to date.

World Warrior will maintain its predecessor’s gritty style while addressing Assassin’s Fist lack of familiar faces. Beyond protagonists Ryu and Ken, Assassin’s Fist

featured just one other character from the Street Fighter games (Akuma). This time, a number of fan favorites will join the fray, including Guile, Sagat, and Chun-li. M. Bison will also join the cast, though Ansah and his will have to do a great job with Street Fighter‘s main villain in order to top Raul Julia’s campy, bombastic, posthumous performance from the 1994 Street Fighter film.

This approach–in while the second web series adaptation of a popular fighting game franchise features a wider cast of characters–is reminiscent of the path of Mortal Kombat: Legacy, which also went bigger and brawlier for its second season. Viewers should expect the same progression from World Warrior when it debuts; the series’ release is tentatively set for late 2015 or early 2016.
