Cats. Kids. Geriatrics. These three entities are now internet staples and when used in ways inappropriate, cute, and/or anomalous can lead to popular online video ephemera and sometimes even fortune.
The latest exceptional addition to one of these categories comes from Josh Shultz , Ethan Cole, and Cole’s grandparents, who so far have a handful of videos within their Explaining Things To My Grandfather series under the banner of Schultz and Cole’s Young Old YouTube channel.
The program positions Cole on a comfortable couch alongside Joe (his grandfather), to whom he explains modern day slang. Each episode tackles new terminology (Molly, Sexting, Wingmanning, Cockblocking, and Getting Back Ethan’s Ex, which isn’t technically terminology the kids use the days) with equal parts information, mild fascination, practical use, slight Canadian accents, and ostensibly gregarious and charming senior citizens who are having a time. Or, to use previous online video examples, it’s the charisma of Old Jews Telling Jokes meets the premise of Elders React.
