Two of the most popular humor websites on the Internet are teaming up to draw a huge number of laughs. Online production studio Electus Digital has formed a strategic advertising partnership with Demand Media in a deal that will bring CollegeHumor and Cracked together under the same banner.
Electus Digital was itself formed in a January 2014 merger between CollegeHumor and Electus, which consolidated a pair of companies that are both owner by InterActiveCorp. The new deal brings Cracked into a fold by striking a deal with Demand, which has served as the humor website’s parent company since purchasing it back in 2007.
The two companies will now be listed together under what will be called the CollegeHumor/Cracked Network. This property is expected to appear in the next edition of the Comscore online video rankings, where it will stand as one of the biggest comedy networks on the web; CollegeHumor has aggregated billions of views across its main website and YouTube channel, and Cracked recently announced its plan to bring its comedy voice (which has launched billions of page views) to an increased number of comedy miniseries on its own website and YouTube channel.
The partnership provides advertisers with an opportunity to run ads against similarly-styled humor portals. According to a press release, the two companies will take advantage of each other’s specific specialties to grow their respestive content libraries. “Cracked is the perfect complement to our existing suite of award-winning entertainment sites, and we are thrilled to partner with Demand Media in this phase of our business,” said Electus COO Drew Buckley. “The opportunity to create and distribute highly engaging and unique marketing programs for two premium comedy websites further positions Electus Digital as a dominant player in creating mainstream entertainment and comedy content.”
The combination of CollegeHumor’s video production skills and Cracked’s humor writing talents figures to form a partnership of hilarious proportions.
