Whoopi Goldberg Has A Web Series Set During Her Morning Commute

Whoopi Goldberg has spent the last 30 years becoming one of the most recognizable faces in film and television. With her last endeavor, she’s attempting to expand her influence onto YouTube as well. The actress, comedienne, and TV host is the star of Rollin’ With Whoopi¸ a new YouTube channel featuring snippets of conversation from her morning commutes.

Rollin’ With Whoopi takes place in the back of Goldberg’s Escalade as she rides to work alongside her makeup artist, Karen Dupiche, and her hairdresser, Yancey Edwards. In a tweet, Goldberg described the show as “something silly coming down the pike [with] me & my 2 friends.” Sure enough, the two episodes released thus far are plenty silly and not at all complex. One features a conversation between the three passengers about the word “betrothed” while the second discusses Whoopi’s love of potato chips.

The subject matter of Rollin’ With Whoopi is about as simple as it gets, and that seems intentional; the channel seems to draw inspiration from Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, Jerry Seinfeld’s successful Crackle series. Goldberg is a comedienne, she is in a car, and as it is set during her commute, coffee is likely to follow. It’s a formula that has worked for Seinfeld, and the slew of positive comments on each of the two debut episodes would suggest it can work for Whoopi, too.

That being said, Rollin’ With Whoopi could use a little more direction and a lot more polish. The production feels a bit low-rent and the conversation topics could be more engaging. Whoopi’s new to YouTube, though. She’s a funny woman and she’ll figure out the right mix with more practice.
