‘Friends’ Producers Create Absurd Bank Robbers For Maker Studios

Maker Studios has recently spent a lot of its resources building up its Nacho Punch comedy channel, and the vertical’s latest series is of high quality. Robin Banks and the Bank Roberts, a web series born from a partnership between Maker and Warner Bros’ Studio 2.0, features a trio of hopelessly incompetent bank robbers who cause all sorts of trouble.

Robin Banks and the Bank Roberts is the creation of Andrew Reich & Ted Cohen, best known as executive producers of Friends. Reich and Cohen lampshade their most famous credit in the very first scene of their web series, where they have two of their hapless protagonists argue over who gets to wear the ‘Joey’ mask when they go it to rob a bank.

Studio 2.0 is well-versed in online production, with Children’s Hospital

serving as the studio’s most prominent web success. Robin Banks isn’t likely to get a run on Adult Swim any time soon, but it’s silly and fun and contains plenty of laughs. “It’s the most juvenile and idiotic thing we’ve ever done and we are very proud to share it with the world,” explained Reich and Cohen. “Unfortunately, we only have a dial-up modem and a CompuServe account so we won’t be able to watch, but we hope other people enjoy it.”

Robin Banks will run for a total of ten 3-5 minute episodes, with a new installment each Wednesday. It’s the best series I’ve seen yet on Nacho Punch, and I hope it represents the trend in which the channel will head.
