Nostalgia is common during the holidays, and it’s a welcome feeling. With that in mind, The City and Horses have rolled out ‘17‘, a disco-themed rock tune that arrives just in time for your latest New Year’s playlist and is sure to leave you yearning for a roller disco to pop up in your neighborhood.
The City and Horses prides itself on mixing genres and blending influences from a variety of musical backgrounds. The video for ’17’ is a perfect example of the Philadelphia-based group’s approach. The band is made up of any number of instrumentalists and fronted by Marc Cantone, also known for producing children’s television.
Taking an appropriately light-hearted approach to the tune, the video is perfectly nostalgic for a time that people who grew up in the 70s likely miss more than their children. It’s a dance song that features a full-on That 70s Show–style dance party. The video features plenty of classic disco babes with fans blowing their teased Farrah Fawcett-style haircuts all around. There’s nothing like wind-swept slow motion hair; it’s probably the most fondly-used ‘pretty girl’ trope, right next to a slow ascent from the water.
The City and Horses latest album, Strange Range, is out now on Paper Garden Records. Be sure to check here for more info on the crew in addition to some upcoming tour dates in your hood.
