CollegeHumor’s ‘Jake And Amir’ Coming To TBS With Ed Helms Producing

CollegeHumor‘s odd couple is taking a crack at TV. Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld, who star in the massively successful web series Jake and Amir, are adapting their brainchild for TV with an assist from Ed Helms.

Hurwitz and Blumenfeld, who both write for CollegeHumor, will pen and star in the series, with CollegeHumor and The Daily Show/The Office/The Hangover funnyman Helms producing. As in their web series, the two leads will play coworkers and best friends who must work together to successfully navigate their crazy workplace.

CollegeHumor has released new episodes of Jake and Amir regularly since 2007, making it one of the longest-running scripted series on the web. The duo’s shtick, which depicts Jake as a straight man and Amir as his slightly unhinged coworker, has proven quite durable. New episodes regularly draw hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube and many more on the CollegeHumor website. In total, the more than 600 Jake and Amir

episodes have drawn upwards of half a billion views across all platforms.

Here’s their latest, a riff on online dating apps:

Though TBS has maintained a strong online video presence, particularly through Conan and The Pete Holmes Show, this will be the first web series the channel has adapted for TV. According to the initial Deadline report, TBS hopes to draw Jake and Amir fans to The Big Bang Theory and vice versa; the CBS hit has performed well in syndication for TBS, and the channel wants to surround it with similar content.

I’m interested to see how much the Jake and Amir TV series resembles its web counterpart. No matter how faithful the adaptation ends up, here’s hoping the comedy duo blossom into a beautiful TV butterfly.
