Must-Watch Music Videos: Lizzo’s ‘Batches & Cookies’ Sounds So Good

[Editor’s Note: Two major trends have emerged in the recent history of new media: 1) Music videos are the new music and 2) YouTube is the new MTV. With that in mind and to keep you up to speed with the greatest and latest in this online video category, Tubefilter has partnered with INDMUSIC, YouTube’s largest independent music network, to bring you at least one must-watch music video every week. Houston rapper Lizzo’s recent release of ‘Batches & Cookies‘ is a bombastic conglomeration of many things; the result of which is a high energy, insanely catchy song and video from a prolific new artist. It’s impossible to listen along and not imagine yourself dancing around the room like this guy or singing along to the chorus of this soon-to-be club banger. And much like the kinetic track, the video boasts an array of visuals that are so fast paced and detailed you’ll have to watch it a few times just to catch all there is to see.

I can’t even begin to parse out the different allusions and metaphors in each of the scenes. What makes this so re-watchable is the sheer fact that there is so much going on, everything from a gentleman singing along to the hook while getting buttered up to another gentleman wearing donut goggles while eating.

I’m always impressed and excited when an artist’s debut video is this high energy and strong. This three-minute

and 23-second perfectly personifies the boldness that has made hip-hop music so impressive over the last few years. Artists that have the room to experiment and release quirky records that highlight eccentricities can leverage a growing community of music lovers that will embrace a new sound and a familiar vibe, both things that are ever-present in Lizzo’s music.

Her debut album LIZZOBANGERS is out now on Justin Vernon’s imprint, Totally Gross National Product. Clearly an untraditional label for this brand of music, which only showcases the growing trend, not just in hip hop, but music in general to reach outside the norm and highlight what’s actually good.

Make sure to also check out Sophia Eris, featured on this track, who drops an impressive verse halfway through that is a clear highlight to the tune. Lizzo just finished up an international tour with the brilliant Har Mar Superstar, too, so be sure to check her website for more appearances (like this incredible performance at Minnesota’s 89.3 The Current) and as always, subscribe here to keep up with her new releases.
