‘Charlie the Unicorn’ Creator FilmCow Gets $18,000 On Kickstarter

The FilmCow channel is best known for creating the Internet classic that is Charlie the Unicorn, but its first Kickstarter campaign concerns another project altogether. Creator Jason Steele needed fewer than four days to reach his funding goal of $18,000 for a feature film based on his Detective Heart of America character.

Detective Heart Of America stars a toy eagle who is also an American detective who loves America and wants to make sure everything in American stays American and doesn’t get corrupted by un-American evildoers. This surreal version of Team America: World Police first played out in two shorts released this year, and with Kickstarter funds secured, it will soon continue as a feature film to be released for free on YouTube.

Detective Heart of America was able to reach its goal thanks to FilmCow’s 900,000+ YouTube subscribers and a personal endorsement from Charlie the Unicorn himself. With more than three weeks left in the campaign, Steele could easily hit some pretty big stretch goals, but he’s not interested in that. “More money will certainly make the process of creating this movie easier for us, he explains on the Kickstarter page, “but stretch goals too often mean that you aren’t getting the best movie / game / whatever unless the project raises way more than its initial goal.  If we needed more money to properly make this movie we would have set our goal at that number. ”

Good for you, Jason. I just hope you understand that we’re now expecting Detective Heart of America to be extra good and American and patriotic and apple pie-filled and all that stuff. Good luck.
