The animation studio that has spent the past 20 years bringing The Simpsons to life is taking its talents to the web. Film Roman, which has more than 30 TV credits to its name, will team up with the WWE for Camp WWE, a series that imagines WWE stars as children.
No release date has been set, but Camp WWE will contain at least 13 three-minute episodes and will be written by Mike Benson, who is best known for his work on TV shows like Entourage and The Bernie Mac Show. Film Roman will handle the animation; in addition to The Simpsons, the studio’s credits include King of the Hill and the first two seasons of Family Guy.
Camp WWE will feature a plethora of WWE stars as they head to a summer camp run by a counselor named Mr. McMahon
. “With a combination of their unique personalities, distinctive characteristics and huge built-in loyal fan base, WWE Superstars make for ideal animation subjects in Camp WWE,” said Dana Booton, general manager for Film Roman. The WWE has a prosperous online video presence, led by its main YouTube channel, which currently has more than two million subscribers and 744 million views. In addition to Camp WWE, its studio wing is also brewing up a film adaptation of ’80s TV show The Fall Guy, with WWE legend Dwayne Johnson set to star.
With its big name production team and WWE’s massive scale, we expect Camp WWE to be a major hit–whenever it does make its way to our computer screens.
