iJustine Wants Your Grandma To Get Wired

iJustine is trying to help our grandparents become much cooler. The popular YouTube vlogger is the face of a new campaign aimed at getting seniors onto the Internet.

The campaign is a partnership between DoSomething.org, a social change website aimed at the under-25 crowd, and Mentor Up, an organization that aspires to help the older generation connect to the Internet. But how can these companies convince young people to help their elders get online, especially when it means more forwards from grandma and more calls from grandpa asking how to fix the Bloons box?

Enter iJustine. Most of the 300 million views on her main YouTube channel come from youngsters, and thus she makes the perfect mouthpiece through which DoSomething.org and Mentor Up can reach their desired audience. In a 30-second spot for the project, iJustine uses the example of her own grandma as an old person who learned how to be super cool on the Internet.

Those who wish to participate in the DoSomething.org campaign only need to text WIRED to 38383 or check out to project’s web page by signing up at the DoSomething.org website.

Old folks are taking to the Internet in record numbers, and not just to critique popular YouTube videos. iJustine is doing her part to make sure that figure goes up. I hope she also gives seniors some of that wearable tech she’s been trying out, because that situation would be ripe for comedy.
