#SMWLA Preview: Electus’ Ben Silverman Talks Traditional, New Media

From September 23-28, online companies, executives, and personalities will gather in Santa Monica for Social Media Week Los Angeles. To help showcase the incredible events that will be going down this year, Tubefilter will be offering daily previews of individual events. Check out the full schedule here and our schedule at a glance here.

Traditional media and online media are oil and water: the former tends toward longer content, the latter toward short; the former follows strict guidelines, the latter almost none; the former is limited to a certain number of channel, while the latter is limitless; and so on. Ben Silverman, the founder of Electus, has experience with both traditional and new media, and at Social Media Week Los Angeles, he will impart his knowledge to the audience. He will discuss his varied credits during a discussion with fellow Electus exec Evan Bregman.

Before founding Electus, Silverman was one of the biggest big shots in the TV world. Thanks in part to his role as co-chairman of NBC Entertainment, he served as executive producer for shows like The Office, The Biggest Loser, and Ugly Betty. He founded Electus in 2009, and while his new company doesn’t produce exclusively for the web, it has created a host of engaging programs, including those on YouTube Original Channels HUNGRY and LOUD. How do Electus’ programs compare to the ones Silverman produced on TV? He will provide the answer.
