Meredith Vieira is the latest TV personality to build up her online video presence. The longtime journalist and host has debuted LIVES, a YouTube channel offering content for women of all ages.
Vieira announced LIVES on Twitter, and the channel’s first few series will debut on September 9th. “Through a channel like this, we can connect so many women of all generations, all colors, sizes and shapes to share stories,” she explained. A trailer on the otherwise bare channel now explains what we can expect from its initial series.
Of these three series, Overshare will be the most intriguing, should Vieira utilize her personal network to bring in well-known women who have unique stories to tell. Instant Response Team seems like Vieira’s attempt to create an Internet version of The View, which she hosted for a decade. I’ll pass judgment on the third launch program, tmi, when I see it, though the title (as well as Vieira’s pandering to The Bachelorette crowd and her use of Google Hangouts) both strike me as a weak attempt to pander to a younger crowd.
Vieira might be a little old for YouTube, but as celebs like Gary Busey and Joan Rivers have shown, a known name can by itself bring in several thousand online fans.
