[Editor’s Note: Two major trends have emerged in the recent history of new media: 1) Music videos are the new music and 2) YouTube is the new MTV. With that in mind and to keep you up to speed with the greatest and latest in this online video category, Tubefilter has partnered with INDMUSIC, YouTube’s largest independent music network, to bring you at least one must-watch music video every week. Turn up your volume and we hope you enjoy the analysis, sites, and sounds. For more Must-Watch Music Video installments, click here.]
If you are of the generation that grew up with 8-bit games, or are into anything that’s fun, super catchy, and cute, then the new Curtis Peoples video for ‘Made for Me (Forever)‘ is likely to make you smile. It’ll get you thinking of summer vacation with your old best friend, that boxy unreliable Nintendo that was the object of all the kids’ attention. (I know I can’t be the only one that spent summer inside with Streets of Rage and Double Dragon.)
It’s hard to appreciate how advanced technology has become unless you spent hours blowing into a plastic game cartridge to only play one level of the original Mario Bros. before it froze. Obviously, all you kids born in the 90s are super jealous right now.
It’s not every day that you get to turn yourself into a video game and blast away the final boss with your guitar, but such things become virtual realities in the music video. Clearly boasting a deep love for all things NES, Curtis teamed up with animator, Joe D! (also known for this amazing X-Men: First Class intro) to put a retro spin on his pop jam.
Check out the original version as well as this bad-ass exclusive Nerdist interview with Curtis and Joe D!. My favorite fun fact from the interview was a specific request to animate the final boss as a Jersey Shore version of Bowser, I personally can’t decide which of the two is more terrifying.
