Philip Defranco‘s Defranco DoesArizona event was billed as a Q&A session where hundreds of his fans could bombard him and his SourceFed pals with all the questions on their minds. In reality, Defranco used the Tempe Center For the Arts Theater as the venue for a much more important conversation. Towards the end of the event, Defranco used a plant in the audience to help him propose to his girlfriend, Lindsay Doty.
Doty, who goes by LinzLoves on YouTube, initially joined Defranco and SourceFed hosts Steve Zaragoza and Meg Turney on stage. Eventually, a woman in the crowd asked her a particularly personal question: “Are you going to get married?” As Doty gave an evasive answer, Defranco reached over, pulled out a ring box, and got down on one knee. The crowd went crazy, Doty said yes, and her parents rushed onto the stage to celebrate with her. The whole shebang has been posted on YouTube, where it has already received more than a half million views.
Defranco and Doty have been together for six years, and the Twitters have been abuzz in response to the audacious proposal. Many YouTubers (including ShayCarl and John Green) have sent in their congratuations, Meghan Tonjes sent flowers, and Michael Buckley has agreed to get ordained so he can be the minister at the wedding. If he doesn’t kick it off by turning to the newlyweds and saying “hey girl hey! hey boy hey!” he will have missed an opportunity for greatness.
Over here at Tubefilter, we’d like to extend our own congratulations to the happy couple while also giving Defranco a big thumbs up for his ballsy proposal and reminding his fangirls that there are lots of fish in the ocean.
