If, over the next few days, you see a bunch of people running down the Pacific coast in Star Wars costumes, do not be alarmed. You are simply witness to Nerdist‘s Course of the Force, a charity run to Comic-Con which has officially kicked off for the second year in a row.
Chris Hardwick and his team of philanthropic nerds did all they could to hype up the event, which will raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. First, Nerdist released a star-studded Course of the Force prequel web series. More recently, Hardwick and fellow Nerdist podcaster Jonah Ray remade Star Wars’ climactic trench run scene as part of CineFix’s Homemade Movies. As with other entries in that series, the result is both impressive in its accuracy and unflinchingly goofy. Finally, the big day arrived, with actors Chris Colfer and Alexis Denisof showing up as two of the first celebrity runners.
Each day will bring new guests and surprises. If you would like to participate but didn’t a chance to sign up, I feel your pain. You can always run the course in spirit by making a charitable donation, donning a C-3PO costume, and completing a couple laps around your living room.
