Boutique Multi-Channel Network ‘Geek And Sundry Vlogs’ Crowdsources Creator Search

The Geek and Sundry Vlogs channel recently debuted as a place for lesser-known nerdy vloggers to share their passions with Felicia Day‘s sizable YouTube following. At launch, it featured seven contributors, who took turns discussing geek pursuits such as comics, cosplay, and Jeff Lewis. The channel is currently in the midst of an ongoing and very unique talent search, through which it will find ten more vloggers to join in on the fun.

Geek and Sundry Vlogs is essentially a ’boutique multi-channel network’; it affords its creators an MCN-like revenue share and also builds up their home channels alongside their videos on the main channel. At the same time, its small size (Geek and Sundry Vlogs will never have more than 20 creators in its network) means each creator can receive tons of individual attention. The featured vloggers have already joined forces for a couple channel-wide Hangouts.

The network’s makeup also informs its talent search. Traditional MCNs find their own new creators, but Geek and Sundry Vlogs is using its fans to decide who makes the cut. Any generally nerdy person can apply, and videos will be embedded on the Geek and Sundry Vlogs website. From there, a combination of internal review and community feedback will determine which ten winners will be added to the family and featured at VidCon.

MCNs are, in some people’s eyes, synonymous with an ocean of contracts and business deals that lose sight of what YouTube is all about. Through its small size and fan engagement, Geek and Sundry Vlogs is attempting to prove that a network can provide plentiful opportunities for creators without leaving its community in the dust.
