New DanceOn Series Explores David Guetta’s Surreal ‘Play Hard’ Video

The video for David Guetta‘s ‘Play Hard’ has received plenty of critical attention due to its undoubted weirdness, especially for a catchy pop song featuring Akon and Ne-Yo. Some of the video’s main characters are its dancers, clad in costumes that reference high-art. The Edge, a new series on the popular DanceOn channel, is exploring those dancers to see where they got their origins and how they landed the gig.

During the nine minute documentary, we learn about each of the dancers in turn as they discuss their hopes and fears while showing off their mad skillz. Guetta also gets some screen time to discuss what inspired him when casting the video. “This was a passion project for me and everyone on set,“ he said.  “Music brings people together.  Every dancer moved in a unique way but what they all had in common was spirit and a positive approach to the video.”

The ‘Play Hard’ episode is one of the first two episodes of The Edge to debut on DanceOn, which now has over two million subscribers. The other discusses will.i.am’s #thatPOWER video. “The Edge gives us a chance to see how dancers prepare to perform in huge mega label productions,” said DanceOn CEO Amanda Taylor.

Given the popularity of music videos on YouTube, The Edge is sure to draw an audience. Personally, I’m hoping for an episode based around Major Lazer’s ‘Pon de Floor’, because I have GOT to know what was going through the heads of those dancers.
