Writer Eric Schaffer Gets Self-Centered In New My Damn Channel Series

Writer, actor, and director Eric Schaffer hasn’t had much success on TV. The series he has created for channels like FX and Showtime have been short-lived, so he’s switching things up with his newest effort. Schaffer has decided to move away from the TV medium, releasing Eric Schaffer: Life Coach on the budding My Damn Channel comedy network.

Eric Schaffer: Life Coach stars a fictionalized version of its lead, a lazy writer who the series intro calls a “filmmaker, asshole, egomanic, visionary, anarchist, antichrist, son, brother” and much, much more. In the course of his self-centered existence, Schaffer decides the problems of others are his cross to bear. Thus, the Life Coach portion of the title becomes evident, as Schaffer spends the whole first episode decluttering his parents’ apartment (all so he can find a few bucks he stashed away in an old soy sauce bottle).

The series, which will

run for 40 short episodes, was initially planned for seven longer installments on premium cable, but Schaffer ended up trying out a new medium instead. My Damn Channel is certainly happy to add the talented creator to its list of talent. “Eric is an extremely talented and prolific filmmaker with a unique voice,” said My Damn Channel CEO Rob Barnett. “Life Coach is smart, adult, fearless comedy and we think the dual-format [shorter episodes and the longform releases, which will be available on Schaffer’s website] is a unique way to give fans two ways to experience and share Eric’s work.”

Life Coach shares a lot of commonalities with Jake Sasseville’s Delusions of Grandeur. Both were originally intended for TV, both ended up on premium online platforms, and both depict a fictionalized version of the show’s creator. If you’re intrigued, new episodes of Life Coach will roll out on YouTube and My Damn Channel.
