One of the advantages of web series over their TV counterparts is the ability to take them anywhere. Mobile views make up a decent portion of YouTube traffic, and with good reason. Now, a new series is taking on-the-go entertainment to a whole new level. Production company 51 Minds Entertainment and innovative distributor TouchFrame have teamed up to create Braindex, an Ipad-only game show and the first ‘app show’ ever created.
Braindex takes advantage of the popularity of Ipad gaming by providing a hybrid gaming/web series experience. Guests are invited on the show to answer trivia questions, and viewers are instructed to play along in real time, creating a balance of entertainment and personal involvement. After all, who watches Jeopardy! for any reason other than screaming answers at the contestants? With Braindex, even YOU can flub the answers to trivia questions.
Braindex‘s YouTube channel has released a few videos related to the game show, including a trailer featuring one of the flagship guests, Mike Tyson.
“We came at this with a healthy skepticism toward the second-screen environment,” said TouchFrame co-founder Jon Zimelis. “Tablets can be an additional tool to TV watching but in reality they can be used as the first screen.”
Braindex is available from the app store, with nine free episodes available at the start. 30 total installments are planned over the next seven weeks, some of which will cost 99 cents. If you’re a trivia buff and you think you can KO Mike Tyson, Braindex is worth a look. I hope you don’t end up like Little Mac.
