New Official Comedy Series Shows What Happens When Comedians Date

Comedian Joe DeRosa is a funny man, and comedienne Nikki Glaser is no slouch herself. The pair, who once dated, are the stars of a new series on Bedrocket‘s Official Comedy channel. It’s called We Should Break Up, and it examines the situations that occur when two talkative and opinionated people get busy.

The first episode has been released, and as the title would imply, the main pairing severs its ties after an argument over whether DeRosa should stay over at Glaser’s house. She says yes, he says he needs to walk the dog before it pees, and hilarity ensues. We’ve been promised six episodes, and each one will feature a break-up or a make-up. On-again, off-again sexual tension is a tried and tested formula for TV sitcoms, but by my knowledge this is the first time it has been used as the central premise of a show.

The video’s description tells us “When a woman asks you to stay over, just stay over…”, which makes me wonder if We Should Break Up is intended as earnest relationship advice as much as comedy. For me, dating tips are much more effective when they come from people who have dated each other and possess enough chemistry to make the ‘examples’ seem genuine. Dishing out advice with jokes instead of overwrought prose is also a nice change of pace.

Official Comedy continues to churn out original content, to the point where I wonder if they are worried about other YouTube-funded comedy channels that have made a splash of late. Geeking Out With Kerri Doherty is still rolling along, with the always-awesome John Hodgman stopping by, and Taryn Southern’s Deep Inside web series has given us a behind the scenes look at one of her new songs. When you add We Should Break Up to that mix, it becomes clear that Official Comedy don’t want this relationship to end.
