Shaq’s ‘Comedy Shaq’ YouTube Original Channel Adds Dramatic Offerings

Despite receiving funding from the YouTube Original Channels Initiative, Shaquille O’Neal‘s Comedy Shaq channel only launched a few months ago. The main offerings of the channel are comedic in nature, and several feature the Big Aristotle himself. Recently, the channel has begun to branch out. The Comedy Shaq is the home of Clean Ops, a new dramatic series about a female assassin.

The star of Clean Ops is Gloria Govan, who has previously starred in the reality show Basketball Wives alongside Shaq’s ex-wife Shaunie (Govan is married to basketball player Matt Barnes.) She plays a mysterious woman named V who is a ballerina by day and a hitwoman by night. Clean Ops itself is a fairly nuts-and-bolts action series, featuring fast-paced action, moody lighting, and, of course, dubstep. I’ll need to see more of the series to decide how I feel about it, but check out the introductory episode to form your own opinion:

The Comedy Shaq was born out of the former Lakers and Heat star’s love of being on camera alongside his affinity for the Internet and online video. Though video’s featuring Shaq himself are the most popular additions to the channel, Clean Ops is an example of the channel’s attempts to bring the network decent viewership beyond its main attraction. With today’s announcement of a new funding round for YouTube Original Channels, the original 100 entries in the project need to prove they have enough good content being produced to justify an added investment. All I can say for sure is that it’s certainly better than Shaq’s own movie efforts.
