Fans Rejoice As ‘Angry Video Game Nerd’ Movie Trailer Hits Web

For seven seasons and over 100 episodes, James Rolfe has taken viewers on a profanity-laced journey through the minefield of terrible video games in his Angry Video Game Nerd series. Recently, Rolfe has decided to elevate his signature character to the next level by creating an Angry Video Game Nerd movie. The full trailer for the film has been released, and it appears to have an impressively professional quality not present in the lo-fi video game reviews for which Rolfe is famous.

The film will star Rolfe as the Nerd character, who is urged by his fans to dig up an old cartridge of the infamous E.T. game for a review. When the government mistakenly believes the Nerd is searching for extraterrestrial life, a wild goose chase through the New Mexico desert ensues. Most of the talent in the film consists of little-known actors, but there are a few rumored cameos of note: Filmmaker Tommy Wiseau, best known for his B-movie schlock-fest The Room, may appear as his Johnny character, while Doug Walker may have a brief role as his Nostalgia Critic character, who has long been a rival of the Nerd

The film was financed thanks to an Indiegogo campaign that ran from October 2011 to February 2012. Rolfe hoped to achieve a $75,000 budget, but he ended up far exceeding that goal by raking in over $325,000 in contributions. The high fundraising total has allowed the film to be entirely fan-funded, and while it may not see a theatrical release, fans can take solace in the fact that Rolfe himself has complete creative control.

The film is tentatively slated for a summer 2013 release, but that date is hardly set in stone. In the meantime, there are plenty of Angry Video Game Nerd episodes available for your viewing pleasure on Gametrailers and Rolfe’s Cinemassacre website (Rolfe is making new episodes while he makes the movie, but they will be more infrequent until the film is completed.) Crack open a Rolling Rock, sit back, and enjoy the wait.
