Laurence Fishburne’s Son Loves Epic Rap Battles (And Other WIGS News)

WIGS, the YouTube channel featuring a plethora of well known leading ladies, has had a busy week. In addition to the debut of the channel’s new Audrey web series, the “#1 scripted channel for drama on YouTube” also released Celia, a short film on reproductive rights. To wrap up its flurry of activity, WIGS has given us a video where they ask the many, many well-known actors associated with the channel to tell viewers what their favorite YouTube videos are.

Laurence Fishburne‘s son Langston (who appeared in WIGS’ Vanessa & Jan) might have the best YouTube taste: Fishburne informed us how much he loves Epic Rap Battles of History, the popular Maker Studios-signed series from Nicepeter and EpicLLOYD. Fishburne’s knowledge of the series was impressive; I bet he could get his dad to star in a future episode, perhaps rapping as Morpheus against another sagely mentor (say, Obi-Wan Kenobi). Are you listening, ERB?

In the meantime, we can only hope that Fishburne has checked out the latest effort from ERB, pitting Doc Brown against Doctor Who (and featuring a guest appearance from Watsky). We also hope you’ll check out the WIGS featurette, which contains several other treats. I loved hearing Michael C. Hall

describe the absurd ‘Drinking Out of Cups‘ in his dry, Dexter-esque monotone.

Celia stars two known names in Hollywood, Alison Janney and Dakota Fanning, adding to the long list of leading ladies who have made an appearance on Jon Avnet and Rodrigo Garcia’s premium channel. The film runs a brisk nine minutes and spans a single scene where the two leads have a dialogue in a doctor’s office. It’s a compelling look at one of the upcoming election’s hot button issues.

Meanwhile, Audrey is a bit on the lighter side.  It stars actress Kim Shaw as the titular character, a free-spirited and highly sexual food blogger. I’d like to give special note to Gary Cole (you know, this guy), who is perfectly cast as a kinda-weird older dude.

WIGS continues to churn out quality entertainment, and the channel is doing a good job of going beyond straight drama. While you check out their stuff, make sure to also bug the Epic Rap Battles team about contacting its biggest fan’s father. I’m pretty serious about wanting that guest appearance to happen.
