Univision Goes Digital With UVideos, A Bilingual Online Network

Univision, the most watched Spanish-language network in the US, has regularly placed 5th or 6th in weekly TV rankings. Now, Univision is launching UVideos, a digital companion to its TV coverage, following the online trail blazed by several other major US networks.

UVideos’ main function will be as an complementary site for Univision’s TV coverage. Fans can expect the site to feature bonus content for all of the network’s juiciest telenovelas. Uvideos will also be accessible from mobile devices. “UVideos offers a compelling new way for U.S. Hispanics to connect with Univision Networks and watch their favorite shows anytime, anywhere, while also creating new opportunities for advertisers and distributors,” said Kevin Conroy, President of Univision. “It provides our audience with new ways to experience their favorite programming, and engage new viewers, many of whom prefer English language experiences, with easy access to the best story telling on television.”

UVideos will allow users to browse the site in either English or Spanish, and closed captioning will be available on all of the website’s videos. A sneak peek of the upcoming Amores Verdaderos telenovela gives us a chance to check out these subtitles. They’re not perfect, but they’re substantial enough that those who wish to experience Univision’s programming in English should be satisfied.

The site will also feature a fair amount of original programming. UVideos has already debuted its first “webanovela”, titled Te Presento a Valentin. Judging from the trailer and the first episode, it seems as if Univision will bring its bilingual fans plenty of quality digital content. ¡Va a vealo!
