Fans Race For Chance To Meet DJ Steve Aoki In New ‘Chasing’ Series

The Vuguru/SyFy Digital production Nuclear Family series gave us a good look at what Xbox Live‘s original programming slate will look like under new boss Nancy Tellem. Now, another prominent network is getting in on the fun. Alloy Digital‘s in-house production studio, Generate, has produced Chasing With Steve Aoki, an Amazing Race-style reality show where three teams must complete episodic challenges in order to win a chance to meet the popular DJ.

The series is available on Xbox Live and can also be seen online via Fuse TV (and the Fuse YouTube channel). As in The Amazing Race, teams of two must uncover clues that lead them to specific obstacles. Unlike the hit CBS show, however, Chasing seems to put a lot more value on the challenges and a lot less on the clues, which mainly serve as easy ways to feature Xbox Live and Steve Aoki within the show. In the first episode, the teams had to take on a fun-looking obstacle course, complete with a twist ending.

The series includes plenty of cross promotion with other Alloy Digital brands. ClevverMusic‘s Misty Kingma serves as the host, and the Smosh guys will appear in a later episode, where they will present a clue and host a challenge. Not surprising to see those two channels teaming up, given the recent Smosh/ClevverGames merger.

Xbox will also receive plenty of promotional support from the game. In addition to being hosted on Xbox Live, several clues within Chasing are presented via the platform, and the upcoming Forza Horizon racing game for Xbox 360 will feature prominently in later episodes. The game is also branded on each team’s uniforms, and one challenge will involve the game in a prominent fashion. It’s clear that Chasing is pulling out all of the stops when it comes to brand marketing.

Chasing is, in the end, an innocent show, and if you like The Amazing Race you’ll probably enjoy it. At the very least, you can entertain your ears thanks to Aoki’s soundtrack. Mmm, that is crunchy.
