Michael C. Hall Of ‘Dexter’ Stops By ‘Ruth & Erica’ On WIGS Channel

It’s a testament to Michael C. Hall‘s acting skills that Dexter has endured as one of the more popular shows on premium cable, surviving on almost nothing aside from its lead’s wide-ranging chops. I’ve always been surprised by Hall’s lack of non-Dexter credits; his most famous role aside from our favorite Floridian serial killer is, um…the villain in Gamer? I would love to see Hall pop up in other roles, which is why it’s great to see him guest star in a multi-episode arc on Ruth & Erica, one of the many female-led web series on the WIGS network.

Ruth & Erica is a dramedy that has thus far released eight of its 13 episodes, with new ones dropping three days a week. The show’s protagonist is Erica, a fortysomething who must care for her mother Ruth will simultaneously dealing with her own messy life. In Hall’s first appearance as realtor Tom, he doesn’t interact with Erica at all, instead sharing a long, high-strung conversation with Ruth about how to sell her house, with discussion of his and Erica’s past mixed in. Check him out, now with more beard

Hall’s facial hair isn’t the only thing that’s changed between Dexter and Ruth & Erica. He is also considerably more vulnerable and willing to be pushed around, as evidenced by an upcoming scene with Erica. However, his ability to engineer a self-serving deal with the leading lady shows us that Tom still has some of that hidden darkness that makes Hall’s characters so great.

Ruth & Erica is just another example of the high-quality talent that WIGS, the self-styled “number one channel for drama on YouTube”, is bringing to the table. Of course, this isn’t Hall’s first foray in the web series world. He also voices his most famous character in Early Cuts, the superb Dexter web companion that has now aired for several seasons. I hope to see Hall around the Internet some more, even if nothing he ever does will live up to his southern accent.
