Ellen Degeneres’ Walk of Fame ‘Star Ceremony’ to be Live Streamed Today

Ellen Degeneres, best known for her work in stand-up comedy (which got her a call to the couch by Johnny Carson) and on TV in the talk show Ellen and the former sitcom of the same name, is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today. As with other recent honorees, the entire “star ceremony” will be visible via live stream on the Walk of Fame’s website. The ceremony will begin at 2:30 PM EDT (11:30 AM local time) and both Degeneres and fellow talk show host Jimmy Kimmel are expected to speak.

“I’m so excited to be inducted into the Walk of Fame,” DeGeneres wrote on Ellen’s Facebook page, “I always thought people liked my dancing best. I guess my walk is pretty good, too.”

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which runs the star ceremonies, began live streaming the events earlier this year, with feeds set up during the ceremonies of celebrities such as Slash

and Neil Diamond. The live video of the feed is co-presented by Variety Magazine, which provides thorough coverage for each honoree.

Degeneres was chosen to receive a star on June 22 as part of the 2013 class. She is the first of the 25 members of this class to be honored, and her star will the 2477th on the famous promenade. As for the ceremony itself, Degeneres is no stranger to live cams. On Ellen’s website, six of them (aka Ellen Cams) allow constant backstage look-ins, 24 hours a day, allowing users to see all of the spinning gears that bring the show to life.

Future inductees in the 2013 class will include James Franco, Usher, and a joint induction for the five Backstreet Boys. It certainly seems as if live streams will become a regular feature at star ceremonies, allowing the memorialization signified by the stars to mesh nicely with the instant access provided by online video.
