The latest music video created by and starring Felicia Day and her motley crew of MMORPG-obsessed compatriots dropped this morning on Day’s shiny new Geek & Sundry YouTube channel (which is part of that $100 million YouTube Originals initiative). It’s called I’m the One that’s Cool. It’s a new nerd anthem that gives an indie rock voice to the zeitgeist’s opinion that geek is the new black and you couldn’t make Revenge of the Nerds in a 2012 American cultural environment because it wouldn’t be believable because all the Tri-Lambs would already be romantically involved with whatever Pi Delta Pis or Omega Mus they so desired. Jed Whedon also provided the music and direction. Here’s a look:
It’s the third music video release from Day and her Guild crew (that is, of course, if you don’t count A Christmas Raid Carol from back in 2007) . The first was the 2009 iTunes and Amazon chart-topping cosplay sensation Do You Want to Date My Avatar? and the second was the 20201 Katy Perry-topping, Bollywood-inspired Game On.
I’m the One that’s Cool also heralds the official launch of Geek & Sundry. Out of the half-dozen-or-so online originals seen on the channel’s programming slate, three launched today. Dark Horse Comics released the first installment of the The Secret, Wil Wheaton and friends play out a few rounds of the board game Small World in Table Top’s premiere, Dark Horse comics while Felicia Day fans get a look at what it’s like to be Felicia Day and make something out of (not an ingot, but a hefty piece of) iron at a real working forge in The Flog.
