RedLever studios and Emmy Award-winning producer Jonathan Prince launched web series SuperMoms on Facebook and Joost today.
The eight episode series features a retro-style (reminiscent of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog) that blends live-action and animated superhero story lines, with new episodes debuting Tuesdays on Facebook
.The series—not-so-subtly sponsored by Clorox—successfully targets its demographic, shrewdly identifying favorite topics of momdom: blind dates, girl talk, cats, mother-in-laws, makeovers, and, of course, firemen (…and “epic battles against chaos,” too). But SuperMoms also reinforces some old-fashioned stereotypes that might rub women the wrong way. From the first episode: “Given the gift of their superpowers when they were struck by lightning while chilling out in a nutrient-rich mud bath at a mid-level spa, Maggie Kelly, Rachel, and Jenny became the SuperMoms! Cleaning up the world—and the house—one room at a time.”
