Athletes Get Pranked by Yahoo, Electus, Dr. Pepper 10

CollegeHumor knows the art of the prank. The online destination (and soon to be major motion picture studio) for individuals craving online video comedy is responsible for the most entertaining tricks of an amusing, playful, and sometimes malicious nature found on any type of entertainment medium.

First there was Amir Blumenfeld and Streeter Seidell’s Prank War, an epic, escalating battle of sado-one-upmanship involving, but not limited to, a $500,000 half court basketball shot, a non-working parachute, and a nonexistent television cameo. Next came the Midnight Talk Show Prank, conceived by a slightly masochistic Dan Gurewitch, who gave a two-week window and copy of his house keys to fellow CollegeHumorer Josh Ruben with instructions to sneak into his apartment way after bedtime and wake him up to host an impromptu, short-form talk show dubbed The Late Late Late Show. And then there was the MTV clipshow series Pranked, hosted by the masters of the genre Blumenfeld and Seidell.

Now CollegeHumor is bringing its shenanigan talents to Yahoo Sports in the form of the original web series Blindsided.

The 10-part program set to debut on January 19 is a collaborative effort from CollegeHumor and Ben Silverman’s “next generation studio” Electus sponsored exclusively by Dr. Pepper Ten. The show will be distributed by way of Sports.Yahoo.com and feature professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, and MLB getting Punk’d. Those sports players involved in the high-jinks include Landry Fields of the New York Knicks, the Baltimore Ravens’ Ray Rice, and Bryan McKinnie, and more.

If you consider the seeming inherent likability of athletes on camera and that comScore reports Yahoo Sports received over 53.2 million unique visitors in December, Blindsided is sure to be one helluva online video hit.
