Canada’s Independent Production Fund Greenlights 11 Web Series

Canada-based Independent Production Fund (IPF), the funding organization behind Toronto-based tween detective series Ruby Skye P.I. from Story2.OH, has just launched Wip, the IPF Web Series Program, which has greenlit eleven new Canadian web series.

According to the IPF, nearly 170 proposals, in both English and French, were submitted by producers across Canada. A total of $1.2M was awarded to eleven selected projects to produce a total of about 16 hours of content. Wip has already debuted the tween mystery series Ruby Skye P.I., comic superhero series Tights and Fights: Ashes, and the French 11 Règles, and will be launching Dakodak, an innovative series for young adults.

Since 1991, the private, independent IPF has invested over $50M in more than 200 television series. The IPF Web Series Program was launched in March 2010 as a pilot project with the participation of Film Nova Scotia and Innovation PEI. Below is a description of the eleven IPF series:

BunnyBop!
BunnyBop!  features young preschool children from 2 to 4 years in bunny suits – either solo or in small groups – busy in activities and play that includes songs and rhymes.  Each webisode will conclude with a story starring the very bouncy BUDDY BUNNY [puppet] who has a passion for carrots.
Guidestones
Guidestones is a thrilling, interactive web series that follows university student Sandy Pria’s every move as she becomes embroiled in a supernatural murder investigation. Determined to solve the mystery, Sandy inadvertently uncovers a covert international cabal set on destroying humanity as we know it.
In the Rough
In The Rough is a comic drama about a young golfer who battles the ups and downs of professional play while balancing his tenuous relationships with everyone around him off the green.
Mod Town
The main pulp and paper industry in a small Maritime town shuts down due to changing times.  To save the town, (and himself), Alex starts a new business in Internet Moderation.  The folks switch their vocation in a hurry, and the townspeople begin to change after spending their days exposed the under-belly of the internet culture – and it used to be such a nice place!
Papillon
Papillon is a comedy web series about a discount airline (more like a defunct airline) and its motley crew of misfits. Fly Papillon – the airline that promises to put the flutter back into flying – in other words, no customer ‘perks’ including in-flight drinks, meals or seatbelts.
Ruby Skye P.I.
When fifteen year old Ruby Skye discovers that one of her neighbours has fallen for the so-called Nigerian email scam, she launches an investigation. But the trail leads in unexpected directions to disastrous and hilarious consequences.
Tights & Fights: Ashes
Ashes is a year-long, hilarious peek behind the mask and into the minds and hearts of superheroes and villains, told through the video diaries and online social networking of five super-powered lovable losers. Major Faultline, Leopard Woman, Fantabulous Gal, The Plumber and Evil Trojan Borsht must uncover the deadly secret behind the disappearance of Captain Euchre – or all of Toronto will suffer the consequences! (Yeah, they don’t really care that much, either…)
