‘The Gloomers’ Snags First-Look Deal With Reveille

The Gloomers, the animated comedy web series about the unluckiest family in the world who happen to live next door to the luckiest family in the world, may now be headed to TV. Reveille Productions, the production company behind NBC’s The Office and ABC’s Ugly Betty, has entered into a first-look deal with Mechem Media, The Gloomers‘ production company—founded by Charles Mechem Jr., a former CEO of Taft Broacasting (which used to own animation powerhouse Hanna-Barbera).

In the next few weeks Mechem Media will pitch The Gloomers along with other animated projects developed in the style of Hanna-Barbera, creator of animated television hits Scooby-Doo and The Flintstones

. Carolyn Bernstein, Executive Vice President of Scripted Programs at Reveille, told The Hollywood Reporter “Hanna-Barbera cartoons are some of the most enduring television series ever created, with characters that continue to live as pop culture icons. Mechem Media is extending Hanna-Barbera’s signature 2D animation style and tone to new stories and new characters, and we’re thrilled to help bring these ideas to life.”

The first-look deal will start with The Gloomers, and then “five other animated shows in development, one live action reality show, and a movie,” Dan Mechem, CEO of Mechem Media, told Tubefilter. Reveille  is behind upcoming scripted series Gigantic on TeenNick; perhaps The Gloomers will find a home on Nickelodeon as well.
